How is Test Done

The test taker has to lie down on an examination table while a gel is applied to the skin which keeps air pockets from forming that can block the sound waves. It also prevents friction as the ultrasound transducer is rubbed onto the skin. The transducer sends sound waves into your body, which travel through fluid and soft tissues and is reflected back on hitting a more solid (dense) surface. The received sound waves are sent to a computer, which creates the images. The waves are at too high a pitch to be heard by the human ear. The whole procedure is painless and lasts about 15-45 minutes.

When to Take Test

The ultrasound scan is widely used to provide with the first view of an unborn child so as to monitor the growth and check for any abnormalities. However, it is also used detect any abnormalities in the heart, idening of blood vessels and diagnose problems related to the liver, eyes, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, thyroid, kidneys, ovaries, testes, etc. It can also evaluate a breast lump and diagnose some cancers

Test Result Mean

The results of the test can be developed as still pictures or as a video recording, based on the requirement. The doctor will review the reports and check for any abnormalities. If anything abnormal turns up on the ultrasound report, undergo other diagnostic techniques maybe carried out, such as a CT scan, MRI, or a biopsy sample of tissue. If the diagnosis is on spot, the treatment can begin.
